If you have been experiencing problems printing from Macintosh computers, or are frustrated that the printer drivers don’t support all the functions on your printer (collation, two-sided printing, etc.), you might try the latest drivers recently released from Apple.
These updates are for Mac users running Snow Leopard and Lion, which cover new and current print and scanning devices from Canon, Samsung, Gestetner, Ricoh, Infotec, Lanier, InfoPrint, and NRG. Apple has made these driver sets available for download from its Support Downloads Web page.
These updated printer drivers are not new, but rather than being developed completely from scratch and distributed by companies separately, they have been modified to accommodate the features in new hardware.
Be warned that the updates have been packaged together, meaning they are large downloads with drivers for many devices. Most are between 16MB-34MB, but the Canon package is over 300 MB. An alternative installation option is to use the Macintosh Software Update option to install the drivers, but I find this less reliable for secondary software such as printer drivers.
A related issue to be aware of: Many Samsung printer users have been reporting printing problems that are causing some computers to slow down. Officially this is known as the “printtool process” problem, and more information is available here.
